Get to know the Regular Grand Lodge of Serbia, Orient Belgrade
The Regular Grand Lodge of Serbia, Orient Belgrade (serbian: Regularna Velika Loža Srbije, Orijent Beograd – RVLS) represents a special and strong Masonic community both in Serbia and in Southern Europe and the Balkans.
Its distinctiveness is particularly highlighted by the entire Masonic work of the First Grand Master of the Regular Grand Lodge of Serbia, Belgrade Orient, Brother Čedomir Vukić.
In short, Freemasonry in Serbia, and therefore in Yugoslavia when it existed, had a very stormy past. In 1912, the Grand Lodge of Serbia was founded, into which Light was brought by the Greek and English Lodges.
In 1912, the Supreme Council of Serbia was founded by the Supreme Council of Greece, and on that occasion Brother Đorđe Weifert was elected as the first Sovereign Supreme Commander. The Supreme Council of Serbia changed its name to the Supreme Council of Yugoslavia in 1923.
The Grand Lodge of Serbia merged into the Grand Lodge of Yugoslavia in 1919. From a historical point of view, Yugoslavia was created in 1918, so it is clear why a unique Masonic Grand Lodge was created.
On August 1, 1940, as a result of the Second World War, under the influence of the German occupation, a decision was made to put Serbian Freemasonry to sleep. After the war, during the rule of the communist party and the specific leadership of the state of Yugoslavia, Freemasonry remained dormant.

Now, maybe already long ago and maybe not so long ago in 1989, three Masonic Lodges were founded in Belgrade, which are practically the first lodges after 50 years.
The self-awareness of the Brethren at that time led to the awakening of the Grand Lodge of Yugoslavia in 1990 with the help of the United Lodge of Germany.
On that occasion, Brother Zoran Nenezić was elected as the first Grand Master on June 23, 1990. Immediately after that, i.e. already in 1991, the Supreme Council of Yugoslavia was awakened, and Brother Zoran Nenezić was elected as the first Sovereign Supreme Commander.
Brother Zoran Nenezić moved to the Eternal East in 2021. His special greatness was that until his last days, he was the ceremonial master of the Regular Grand Lodge of Serbia, Belgrade Orient.
From the awakening of freemasonry in the nineties until today (year 2025), many Grand and Small Lodges have appeared and disappeared in the territories of the former Yugoslavia and Serbia, and almost all of them have a direct or indirect connection, but they should certainly have a moral connection with to all our Brothers who fought for Freemasonry not only in the nineties but also in the last century.
Today’s Regular Grand Lodge of Serbia, Orient Belgrade has about 200 members and a dozen active Lodges. The creation of a strong Masonic Fraternal story in Serbia resulted in the creation of the Grand Orient of Serbia in 2016, as a particularly strong Fraternal Grand Lodge with around 1,000 members.
The special feature of the Regular Grand Lodge of Serbia, Orient Belgrade, is, among others, that the first three degrees (Blue Lodge) work according to Schroeder’s ritual, while the other degrees are performed according to the Ritual of the Ancient and accepted Scottish rite.
In Serbia, but also in the areas of ex-Yugoslavia, freemasonry is still full of prejudices for the general population. There are many shows, newspaper articles, humanitarian events, etc. which is working to free Freemasonry from prejudice, but it is still a long process that is being worked on diligently.
A message for respected Brethren around the world: When your business or private trip brings you to Serbia, you have the option if you want to join as a guest in our construction of the temple of humanity, or at least to toast with the Brethren from Serbia in the name of freemasonry.
