As I stood at the entrance to the Masonic Temple, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of nervous excitement.
I had always been fascinated by the mysterious fraternity and the principles of brotherhood and self-improvement that it stood for.
It was an open day for potential new members to have an introduction to freemasonry. As I entered the building, I was greeted by a group of men, all dressed in traditional Masonic regalia. They welcomed me warmly and invited me to join them as they gathered for a short presentation.
As I sat among the lodge members, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of awe at the history and tradition that surrounded me. The Lodge was filled with symbols and ritual that spoke to the values of the organization, and I couldn’t wait to learn more about what it meant to be a Freemason.
One of the members, a man of senior years named Benjamin Franklin, stood up to address the group. He was a well-respected member of the community and a prominent figure in the Masonic brotherhood.
“My brothers,” he began, “as Freemasons, we are all windows through which others will see and decide what their opinion of our fraternity will be.
It is up to each and every one of us to represent the values and principles of Freemasonry in all that we do.
We must strive to be men of integrity and honour, always seeking to improve ourselves and help those around us.
We must remember that the world is watching, and it is our actions that will shape their perception of who we are and what we stand for”.

“So let us be diligent in our duties as Freemasons, and let us always strive to be the best versions of ourselves. By doing so, we will not only make ourselves proud, but we will also bring honour to the fraternity and show the world the true meaning of brotherhood.”
As old Ben finished his speech, the members of the Lodge erupted in applause. His words had touched me deeply, and I knew that I wanted to be a part of this incredible organization.
Over the next few weeks and months, I dedicated myself to learning all I could about Freemasonry and living up to the principles that Benjamin Franklin had outlined. I submitted an application to join the lodge and in time I became an active member, participating in meetings and charitable works, and striving to be a shining example of what it means to be a Freemason.
Now I am an old timer, a ‘tutter’ on the back benches, and as I look around the Lodge, I still see the same dedication and commitment in the eyes of my fellow lodge brothers. We were all united in our desire to be the best versions of ourselves and to bring honour to the fraternity.
And through our actions and example, we knew that we were serving as windows through which others could see the true meaning of Freemasonry. We were proud to be a part of something bigger than ourselves, and we knew that our fraternity was making a positive impact on the world.
In the end, I realized that old Ben was right. Every Freemason is a window through which others will see and decide what their opinion of Freemasonry will be.
And through our dedication and commitment, we are showing the world the true meaning of brotherhood and the power of self-improvement.
